in 2002 by the Burns Bog Conservation Society. The
purpose of the Foundation is to conduct a capital
campaign and to create an endowment fund for the
Burns Bog Conservation Society.

volunteer boards of directors.

To provide funding for education programs and facilities
that will enable the Burns Bog Conservation Society
to continue and extend its work in conserving and
protecting Burns Bog.
Meet Our Board Of Directors
ELIZA OLSON, ADVISOR TO THE BOARD
Eliza is the Founding President and Volunteer Executive Director of the Burns Bog Conservation Society. She has been an Advisor to the Foundation since 2003. Besides her work with Burns Bog, Eliza’s volunteer work is extensive. She is a past director of the Delta Chamber of Commerce, the Protect Our Children Group, and the BC Association for Charitable Gaming.
LYNNE MACKENZIE, ADVISOR TO THE BOARD
Lynne is a retired senior school psychologist, university lecturer and private practitioner. She practiced most of her 40-year psychology career in Australia. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from UBC and a PhD and Graduate Diploma in Special Education from the University of Tasmania, Australia. Lynne’s parents, Steve and Eve Zablosky, were founding members of the Burns Bog Conservation Society.
BOB SAITO, PRESIDENT
Bob is serving his second term as President of the Foundation. He has been a Board member since 2011, and served on the Board of the Burns Bog Conservation Society from 2005 to 2011. A Surrey resident for over 60 years, Bob retired from the Insurance Corporation of BC after 35 years of service. He is a volunteer with the Newton Community Thrift Store, whose proceeds go to the Surrey Firefighters Charity Foundation and Surrey Hospice. He is also a past president of the Surrey White Rock Ringette Association. Bob is married with two daughters. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Simon Fraser University.
LAURENE FAULKENBERG-MONESMITH, DIRECTOR & FUNDRAISING CHAIR
Laurene was national sales manager with Parfums Stern, a fragrance distributor and marketer, and was the western regional sales manager for Insignia, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Nina Ricci and Alfred Sung fragrances. She previously worked for Elizabeth Arden Cosmetics as a sales representative, trainer and motivational speaker. Laurene also worked in advertising sales with Now Newspapers, where she won three President’s Club awards and placed second in Canada for Best Ad Design. Laurene has been a Foundation Board member since 2015.
TOM EDWARDS, DIRECTOR
Tom has been a licensed realtor with RE/MAX Performance Realty in North Delta since 2006. He received his license through the Real Estate Division of the Sauder School of Business at UBC. Tom was a long-time Delta resident from 1971 to 2017. He now lives in east Langley with his wife, two adult daughters and granddaughter. Tom has been a Foundation Board member since 2014.
MICHAEL (MIKE) NIELSEN, DIRECTOR
Mike has been the owner/operator of Sprite Multimedia Systems in Surrey since founding the computer and entertainment company in 1983. He has served as a director of the Downtown Surrey Business Improvement Association since 2006, and is the president of his townhouse Strata Council. Mike is a lifelong resident of Metro Vancouver, and has called Surrey his home for the past 35 years. He has been a Foundation Board member since 2014.
DAVE MURDOCH, DIRECTOR & SOCIETY LIAISON
Dave is a retired social studies and geography teacher with Surrey School Board District No. 36. He holds Bachelor of Arts and Master of Education degrees from UBC. Dave also serves as a volunteer naturalist and tour guide at the Delta Nature Reserve.
DEREK ZEISMAN, DIRECTOR
Derek has been involved with the Burns Bog Conservation Society since 1988, when he was one of several Seaquam Secondary students who helped in the fight to stop development of the Bog. Raised in North Delta, he now lives in White Rock. He is a senior policy advisor with Global Affairs Canada. Derek holds Bachelor degrees in Journalism and Arts (History) from Carleton University; Master degrees in Public Administration and Industrial Relations from Queen’s University; and Bachelor degrees in Common Law and Civil Law from McGill University.
DOUG HART, VICE-PRESIDENT & PAST PRESIDENT
Doug is an independent consultant specializing in strategic corporate governance and succession planning. He served as a vice-president and officer of Industrial-Alliance Pacific Life Insurance for more than 11 years. Doug is a former executive director of the South Surrey & White Rock Chamber of Commerce, and ran for White Rock City Council in the 2014 municipal election. Doug also serves as a director of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and the Seniors Come Share Society. He is married with two boys. He and his family have resided in the South Surrey-White Rock area since 1992. Doug holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from UBC.
WAYNE DERRETT, DIRECTOR & SOCIETY LIAISON
Wayne is a Chartered Professional Accountant and Certified General Accountant. He completed his CGA studies through the Certified General Accountants program, after graduating from the British Columbia Institute of Technology. Wayne is a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants Association of BC. In his spare time, he is an active member of the Semiahmoo Fish and Game Club.
