Eliza Olson, Advisor to the Board
Eliza is the Founding President and Volunteer Executive Director of the Burns Bog Conservation Society. She has been an Advisor to the Foundation since 2003. Besides her work with Burns Bog, Eliza’s volunteer work is extensive. She is a past director of the Delta Chamber of Commerce, the Protect Our Children Group, and the BC Association for Charitable Gaming. She is a founding member of Delta Toastmasters Club 1924 (Ladner), and a member of the North Delta University Women’s Club and the Association of Fundraising Professionals. Eliza’s community service awards are numerous. They include a Queen’s Jubilee Medal; Canada 125 Medal; BC Community Achievement Award; BC Minister of the Environment Award; Delta Chamber of Commerce’s Citizen of the Year Award; Earth Day Canada’s Hometown Hero Award; a Human Rights Award for Environmental Leadership; a Canadian Geographic Silver Award for Conservation; and an Alumni of Distinction Award from Vancouver Community College. In 2004, the Surrey Teachers’ Association presented Eliza with a Lifetime Membership for her commitment to educating young people about the ecological treasure that is Burns Bog. A teacher by profession, Eliza holds a Bachelor of Education degree from Simon Fraser University and an Honourary Doctorate from Kwantlen Polytechnic University.
